NEWS | Senior Financial Management Students Successfully Wrapped their 4th-Year Level Webinar

With the theme “Adulting Station: Boarding Towards the Corporate World,” the 4th-year Financial Management students successfully held their 4th-year level webinar on June 1, 2024, through Facebook Live and Zoom.

The event was organized by the 4th year class representatives and was hosted by Precyl Mae Sembrano from 4-12s and Maria Isahbel Paras from 4-2. The college chairperson, Dr. Ria Fajilago, delivered her opening remarks, followed by the hosts' introductions to two guest speakers.



With the topic, “What can ka-Finance contribute and expect in the corporate world?” Mr. Elmer Sarmiento, the event’s first guest speaker, started his presentation with a brief introduction of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute and discussed how the finance field is growing. 


Mr. Sarmiento presented the different career paths for finance majors, and he highlighted that you should list down at least three career paths that you are willing to pursue. He also emphasized the importance of sharpening skills through value-added training and certifications, including Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Certified Financial Modeling and Valuation Analyst, Chartered Investment Banking Analyst, and Financial Risk Management.

“It’s not really necessary, it is not a requirement, but it’s actually a value-added initiatives because you get to learn things that you don’t really get straight from the academe, because a lot of these certifications are direct from the industry.”


Moving forward to the next speaker, Ms. Anna Dacanay presented her topic, “Navigating Finance Careers: Unlocking Opportunities,” where she introduced a brief look at promoting roles in different industries.


In her discussion, she pointed out the significance of having options and also gave some options for safe bets, including banks, traditionally known companies, government agencies and offices, and own businesses. She also discussed how to boost one’s finance career options and organization versus technical jobs in finance.


“I realized that to have happiness or chase for happiness or have like a semblance of happiness or contentment, you should give yourself options.”


After the remarkable discussion by the guest speakers, representatives from the two major sponsors of the  webinar also had the time to introduce their brands to the students. 


Coins.ph representative, Mr. Floi Wycoco, introduced their brand, gave a short background to their growing community, and tackled some benefits of coins pro including the free tracking tools to practice trading, low fees which gives higher profit margins, and withdrawals of Php directly to the bank account.



The second sponsor from Vertex Trading, Mr. Ferdinand Farnacio, Jr., presented his topic “Mastering Trading: A Guide To Being On Point,” where he discussed the importance of having earned income, portfolio income, and passive income in achieving financial freedom. 




Awarding of certificates for the guest speakers and sponsors were given after their discussion, followed by photo opportunities with the hosts. The dean of the College of Accountancy and Finance (CAF), Dr. Julieta G. Fonte, delivered her closing remarks to formally end the 4th-year level webinar.
