If, even for a short moment, when the lights are off, the Earth could breathe, and so could we.
At night, the city is full of lights. It feels like the idea that cities never sleep is real. The streets are bright. In between homes, you can see small gleams on different windows. Cars pass by with their headlights on, one after another.
And suddenly, everything feels alive. The city looks busy. People are moving. The lights are flashing. For a moment, it feels nice to see it all. Everyone seemed to be living their own moment of happiness.
At times, I pause and think. Does it always have to be like this? Does our happiness always have to demand something else in return?
I start to think about how easy it is for us to forget where all of this comes from. The power behind every streetlight. The energy behind every light bulb in our house. It all feels normal, and that is what makes it easy to overlook.
Sometimes, I wonder if happiness can also exist without needing a light. If it is possible for us to feel alive without needing the world to shine for us.
If, even for a short moment, when the lights are off, the Earth could breathe, and so could we.
