With everything slowly going back to normal, most of us are excited and looking forward to exploring what’s deprived us the past two years in this pandemic. Will this change give us more convenience, or will this give us a hard time to adjust with the way things are going back to normal?
Two years have passed since the pandemic struck us and we’re still struggling to cope with its outcome. As most areas are under alert level 1 already, it was recently reported that limited face-to-face classes are now allowed to start that will help students ensure and learn properly without any distraction unlike during the online setup.
With everything slowly going back to normal, most of us are excited and looking forward to exploring what’s deprived us the past two years in this pandemic. Will this change give us more convenience, or will this give us a hard time to adjust with the way things are going back to normal?
We can’t deny that at some point, the quality of education that we had the past two years were poor as we are under a crisis and not most of us are privileged enough to afford having a good setup and internet connection to keep up with the online learning that we are in. As most schools are closed, we were stuck in our own houses trying to learn on our own and balance our responsibilities between our academics and the chores to do after studying. According to Tadalan in his report, a 14-year-old student finds self-learning convenient as the noise distractions lessen but finds it hard to understand math lessons because he needs a teacher to teach him. In addition to this, parents are also having a hard time teaching their children complex lessons and couldn’t afford laptops or gadgets to make the online learning easier. This shows how far the quality of education is from when we are having physical learning than we are in this online setup.
Students are experiencing academic burnout with the requirements given to them that results in lack of attention and difficulty to concentrate. Even with academic breaks given by the school authorities, this doesn’t lessen the burden that students experience with the workload that they are receiving. The way students do their work nowadays is more like studying to comply not to learn because of the pressure that they get.
Attending face-to-face classes might lessen the burden that we, students, experience. We will get a better quality of education and a fair grading as we are all gathering in our classrooms, taking exams together and engaging with one another that will help us understand and focus on our studies.
Indenting to conduct face-to-face classes, some students are anxious about the sudden change that will happen. Adjusting from an online setup to a physical learning can be tough as we are aware that this setup gives us convenience and opportunities to the students to balance their studies and work. We are also aware that most of us struggled financially during this pandemic and having face-to-face learning suddenly might be a problem financially for some students as they need to commute or get a dorm to attend classes.
“Ligtas na Balik-Eskwela” is what we are fighting for, where students will have the education that they deserve and safety under this pandemic. The recently released Memorandum No. 5, s. of 2022 shows how the administration neglects the situation of every student. Lifting the academic ease under this pandemic will put a lot of pressure on the students given that not all of us are privileged enough to keep up with this online setup.
While we are still currently in an on-going school year, preparing for a much more effective way of learning is a probable solution for all of us. Engaging with sudden adjustments will give everyone a hard time. Opening the school for the next school year is a much better solution that will give everyone enough time to prepare and cope with how things are going back to normal.
Studying in this pandemic is a big struggle as we have different problems that we are dealing with. Remember that having a high grade won’t matter if you have a poor performance. Thus, always choose where you will gain a lot of knowledge rather than having an outstanding grade with a poor performance ahead.
Yes to “Ligtas na Balik-Eskwela”. Open the school next school year and en-sure the safety of the students so no one will be left behind.
